Medical Disclaimer
Please read this before using content from Uric Well
Content is for educational purposes only
Everything published on Uric Well — articles, guides, comparison tables, reviews and every other page — is general educational information. It is not medical advice, it is not a diagnosis, and it is not a substitute for care from a qualified healthcare professional who knows your history.
No clinician–patient relationship
Reading this site does not create any professional relationship between you and Uric Well. We cannot examine you, we cannot see your blood results, and we cannot know what else you take or what your kidneys are doing.
Do not stop or change a prescription because of something you read here
This is the single most important line on this page. Urate-lowering therapy works slowly and is judged over years, and stopping it commonly triggers a return of attacks and continued joint damage. If something you read here raises a question about your treatment, take the question to your prescriber rather than acting on it.
When to seek care urgently
A hot, swollen, exquisitely painful joint is not always gout. Septic arthritis — a joint infection — can look very similar and is a medical emergency that can destroy a joint within days. Seek medical care promptly, rather than self-treating, if you have any of the following:
- A fever or chills alongside the joint pain
- A first attack that has not been assessed by a doctor
- A joint that is rapidly worsening, or several joints affected at once
- A recent joint injection, joint surgery or a prosthetic joint in the affected area
- Any doubt at all about what is causing it
Supplements and dietary changes
“Natural” does not mean “without effects”. Supplements interact with medication, high-dose vitamin C is not appropriate for everyone, and anyone with kidney disease, kidney stones, liver disease or on anticoagulants should treat dietary and supplement changes as a clinical conversation rather than a lifestyle one. Speak to your doctor or pharmacist first.
Accuracy and currency
We make a serious effort to be accurate and to cite guideline-level sources, but medicine changes and errors happen. Information here may become out of date. Where you find a mistake, please tell us through the contact page.
